The study focused on 294 elderly people with an average age of 89 years. The investigation began about 6 years before their death, and their brains were analyzed. It was found that there were reading and writing habits, or other mental disorders, in the early and late years. Those who were stimulated had fewer brain lesions and plaques common in people with dementia.
