Apple Pectin is a viscous, soluble fiber that forms a gel and is found in natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, and beans.
Because pectin has the advantages of biological activity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, reproducibility, low cost, and easy modification, it has been widely used in food, medical treatment, cosmetics, biological implants, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and textiles. more and more applications
At present, there are a variety of apple pectin health foods on the market, such as: apple pectin, citrus pectin, red quinoa pectin, beet pectin, etc. The effect of weight control.
Pectin is a natural polymer water-soluble polysaccharide with complex structure (composed of galacturonic acid and methyl ester), which exists in the primary cell wall and middle layer of terrestrial plant tissues, helps maintain its structure, and plays a role in plant growth. Diverse functions in morphology, development, cell expansion, seed hydration, plant defense, etc.
Benefit of Apple Pectin
- Good for blood pressure regulation
It is estimated that one in four adults worldwide suffers from high blood pressure (high blood pressure), totaling nearly one billion people, causing more than seven million premature deaths worldwide and accounting for 4.5% of the global disease burden. For every 10 mmHg increase in blood pressure, the risk of coronary death doubles in people aged 40 to 90. With the global prevalence of hypertension projected to increase by 60% by 2025, primary prevention of hypertension has become a global public health challenge. Overall, supplementation with viscous soluble fiber such as apple pectin can reduced systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. - It can regulates cholesterol
Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis and is associated with the increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and myocardial infarction. With unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, lack of exercise, stress, smoking, and obesity the risk of hypercholesterolemia increase. Relevant studies also found that for every 1.0 mmol/L reduction in LDL cholesterol, all-cause mortality was reduced by 10%. Also the risk of major coronary events and stroke was also reduced by 23% and 17%, respectively. Soluble fiber intake is associated with lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Apple Pectin is a very good source of soluble fiber - Good for weight management
Although obesity is a complex, multifactorial disease with genetic, behavioral, socioeconomic and environmental causes, it is largely preventable and treatable. Obesity and overweight together affect more than one-third of the world’s population today, and if current trends continue, by 2030, an estimated 38% of the world’s adults will be overweight and 20% obesity. Weight management is mainly affected by heredity, behavior and environment, of which diet is the most important factor affecting weight stability. by increasing physical activity can improve weight gain. Viscous fiber such as pectin can reduces appetite more than less viscous fiber. Another study pointed out that pectin can increase satiety and reduce energy intake. - Beneficial for diarrheal diseases
Most diarrheal illnesses last 5-7 days, these episodes are usually defined as acute diarrhea, when diarrhea lasts for more than 14 days, it is defined as chronic and persistent diarrhea, and is the second leading cause of death and hospitalization in children under the age of 5 mostly in low- and middle-income countries. Pectin can significantly reduce stool volume, oral rehydration volume, intravenous fluid volume, frequency of vomiting, and duration of diarrhea.
