Description

Tryptophan is one of the eight essential amino acids in the human body. In addition to playing an important role in protein synthesis, it is also an important precursor in the synthesis of serotonin, melatonin, kynurenine, and nicotinic acid. Supplements are often thought to improve depression and sleep-related disorders.

Tryptophan is also known as L-tryptophan because of all amino acids. The L isomer form is bioavailable and can cross the blood-brain barrier. Natural foods rich in tryptophan are oats, bananas, milk, fish, cheese, chicken, peanuts and dark chocolate…etc

Benefit of Tryptophan

  1. Improve sleeping disorder. Sleep is essential for maintaining a healthy immune system, restoring energy, and consolidating memories. About 45% of adults do not get the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Achieving good sleep quality, i.e. low sleep latency, fewer awakenings after falling asleep, good sleep efficiency, and duration, are necessary for overall health and well-being. If it takes more than 30 minutes to fall asleep, wake up more than once during the night, or wake up and fall back asleep for more than 20 minutes, then sleep quality is poor. Even after reaching the recommended sleep time, you may feel tired the next day. Tryptophan supplementation may help reduce total waking hours after falling asleep
  2. Tryptophan Beneficial for Depression. Depression is currently the most prevalent mood disorder. It affects no matter age, race, or socioeconomic background. The lifetime prevalence rate is about 18%. Possible symptoms include low mood, loss of interest in things, sleep disturbance, decreased appetite, and feeling unwell. Worthless, unable to concentrate, or even suicidal thoughts, etc. And many chronic diseases are often causally related to depression, such as diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune diseases and pain, adding to the difficulty of diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Tryptophan benefits premenstrual dysphoric disorder. About 80% of women have mild premenstrual symptoms during their menstrual cycle, of which 3% to 8% are more severe (irritability, impulsiveness, depression, and carbohydrate cravings are most prominent), often severely interfering with work, family, and relationships. There are many causes of PMS, among which disorders of serotonin and progesterone metabolism are the most relevant. In terms of treatment, antidepressants and oral contraceptives are most commonly used. Other treatments include cognitive therapy, Chasteberry and calcium.
  4. Tryptophan Beneficial for Impulsive Behavior Control. Impulsive aggressive behavior plays an important role in many violent and criminal incidents, and these behaviors are one of the most prominent features of borderline personality and antisocial personality disorder. Research has found that the neurotransmitter: serotonin has an inhibitory effect in the brain, can regulate emotions and behavior, and inhibit aggressive thoughts, and once the effect is abnormal, it will increase the probability of bad behavior. A double-blind crossover study (for 15 days, 39 people with quarrelsome personality traits) pointed out that tryptophan can also increase consent behaviors and affinity traits, which has a positive effect on improving social interaction. Positive effect (but some results improved more in men)
